The Johnny Apple Seed Chicks are growing with gusto. Here they are at three weeks. I expect to see them on a perch any day now.
There are three, one is mostly yellow and the other two are variegated. I think from the "shake the nest and see who hides (males) that they are all males.. Time will tell. Nest # 1 > 2016.
I have opened the breeder cage to a full cage (26 x 16 x16) now, offered her a new nest and some neat nesting materials that she seems interested in.. The male I have placed in with her is a Yorkshire canary named "Bob". He is singing to her and he has a beautiful song. ummm! Keeping fingers crossed for a second clutch.

Here they are at 2 wks. Crops full and pin feathers growing. Enjoying this early hatch of Johnny Apple Seed Canaries.
All legs in the last picture..
The JA canary is Waterslager x Yorkshire cross with a beautiful song, and is a slightly larger canary.
The breeding pan is the same as shown here for the American Singer. The desired result is 3/4 Waterslager and 1/4 Yorkshire Canary.
