The Johnny Apple Seed Canary Boys 2016

The more I watch and listen to the JA the more I really love them. What a great Canary. Beautiful song. And nice in size, standing tall on the perch.

Suburban Canary #22 has finished her nest..Today she filled in the bottom of the nest.. For a new mom she has done a great nest building job.

Eggs tomorrow? We shall see! She is paired with one of CB's Waterslagers.

The Johnny Apple Seed Chicks are growing with gusto. Here they are at three weeks. I expect to see them on a perch any day now.

There are three, one is mostly yellow and the other two are variegated. I think from the "shake the nest and see who hides (males) that they are all males.. Time will tell. Nest # 1 > 2016.

I have opened the breeder cage to a full cage (26 x 16 x16) now, offered her a new nest and some neat nesting materials that she seems interested in.. The male I have placed in with her is a Yorkshire canary named "Bob". He is singing to her and he has a beautiful song.  ummm! Keeping fingers crossed for a second clutch.

Here they are at 2 wks. Crops full and pin feathers growing. Enjoying this early hatch of Johnny Apple Seed Canaries.

All legs in the last picture..
The JA canary is Waterslager x Yorkshire cross with a beautiful song, and is a slightly larger canary.
The breeding pan is the same as shown here for the American Singer. The desired result is 3/4 Waterslager and 1/4 Yorkshire Canary.

The first nest of 2016. Planned by the Johnny Apple Seed Hen herself. Three cheerful chicks doing well and growing..

Here is the Hen as she sat on the nest of four eggs. Then as she is collecting food for the young.. I feed a smorgasbord of soft food and frozen peas so she can feed the chicks.

Will be posting pictures this week. Aug was a busy month with 29 nests. The last Waterslager is about to fledge the nest, he is white with a black Mohawk.

We have added several new birds to the flock and will have news of them. The current 2015 fledglings are ready for sale, many beautiful yellow song canaries. The males are starting to sing or I should say are learning to sing. Many nice hens also.

Canaries: Belgian Waterslagers, Johnny Appleseeds, German Rollers, American Singers & Yorkshires.
